Gō Nagai's black comedy to open in November; Hiroshi Mutō's action story in fall

Total Media Corporation has posted a 100-second, high-definition trailer for the live-action film adaptation of The Abashiri Family (Abashiri Ikka) manga by Gō Nagai (Devilman, Mazinger Z, Cutey Honey) on the YouTube website. The mature gag comedy centers around the infamously violent Abashiri crime family, most of whom live in a lawless area of Japan known as Bangai-chi. Idoling!!! group member Erika Tono-oka stars as Kikunosuke, a daughter with no memories of her family's criminal history, who tries to live a normal schoolgirl's life in Paradise Academy. However, the school's faculty and student body happens to be filled with torturers and killers. The film, which also stars Shun Sugata, Maria Yoshikawa, Jirō Satō, and Miwa, will open in Tokyo on November 21. Studio Pierrot already adapted the manga into a four-volume video anime series (pictured at right) which ADV Films released in North America.

The official website for the live-action film adaptation of Hiroshi Mutō's Kyō kara Hitman crime action manga is streamng a 91-second trailer as well. 36-year-old actor/musician Shinji Takeda (Cromartie High: The Movie's Mechazawa) plays an ordinary salaryman who is forced to replace a legendary hitman.
