The Oricon survey firm reports on Wednesday that the first Blu-ray Disc (BD) volume of kakifly and Kyoto Animation's K-ON! anime has sold about 33,000 copies to become the #2 best-selling BD release overall and the #1 television anime BD in Japan so far. The volume also topped Oricon's latest weekly Blu-ray Disc sales chart when it shipped on July 29. The previous television anime BD record holder, the first volume of Shōji Kawamori and Satelight's Macross Frontier, sold about 22,000 copies. K-ON! volume 1 topped Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight live-action film (about 29,000 copies in Japan) but is still trailing Hideaki Anno and Khara's Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone anime film (about 49,000 copies).
The first K-ON! DVD volume sold about 8,000 copies to debut at #7 on the latest weekly DVD chart.
