8% Sales Drop in Graphic Novels Aimed at U.S. Adults
posted on by Egan Loo
The ICv2 retailer news source reports in its ICv2 Insider's Guide #67 book that Nielsen BookScan recorded an 8% drop in U.S. bookstore sales of fiction graphic novels aimed at adults during the first 25 weeks of 2009. This figure does not include graphic novels in the Kids and Young Adults category, nor does it include sales in retailers not surveyed by BookScan, such as Walmart and many comic book stores. ICv2 had already reported that graphic novel sales in comic stores were up in the first quarter of 2009, but down in the second quarter. ICv2 also provided several lists of top properties in Q2, including ones for manga, shojo, shonen, and kids & tweens.
