Live-Action Blood Film Opens with US$110,029 (Updated)

The Box Office Mojo website reports that Chris Nahon's live-action film adaptation of Production I.G's Blood: The Last Vampire anime earned an estimated US$103,000 in its opening weekend in the United States. With 20 theaters screening it during the July 10-12 weekend, the Samuel Goldwyn Films release had an estimated per-screen average of US$5,150. South Korea's Jeon Ji-hyun (under her English name, Gianna Jun) plays the main character Saya, a sword-wielding girl hunting down supernatural creatures near an American military base in Japan. Japanese actress Koyuki plays her opponent Onigen. Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, Patlabor, Urusei Yatsura) conceived of the original anime film that Hiroyuki Kitakubo directed.

Update: Box Office Mojo now reports that the actual total of the film is US$110,029, which places the film at #32. With that total, each screen earned an average of US$5,501.
