Petite Cubes' Kato Invited into AMPAS of Oscar Fame
posted on by Egan Loo
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the people behind the Oscar Awards, has invited anime director Kunio Katō and 133 people to join its roster. Kato became only the second Japanese animator to win an Oscar when his "La Maison en Petits Cubes" ("Tsumiki no Ie" or House of Blocks) short won the Best Animated Short Film category at the 81st Annual Academy Awards in February. (The first was Hayao Miyazaki, who won the Best Animated Feature category with his Spirited Away film.) Actress Anne Hathaway, the voice of Haru in Disney's English dub of The Cat Returns film, has also been invited this year.
