New Macross Manga Launches in Japan's Macross Ace Mag
posted on by Egan Loo
The second volume of Kadokawa Shoten's Macross Ace magazine shipped in Japan on Friday with a new manga series based on the Macross science-fiction franchise. Artist Megane Kikuya (.hack//XXXX) adapted the first story in the Macross Frontier drama CDs into the Nyan-Dra: Alto Meets Sky manga. Alto Saotome is a pilot of a transforming space fighter and the main character in last year's Macross Frontier television sequel series. Macross Frontier has inspired at least five earlier manga series.
In addition, the magazine is continuing the serialization of The Super Dimension Fortress Macross The First, the manga retelling of the first Macross television series and movie by original character designer Haruhiko Mikimoto. The character designer and animation director of Macross Frontier, Yûichi Takahashi, is also drawing a four-panel manga called Vajranpō. Macross A Shucchō-gō. Besides the manga, the second Macross Ace issue includes interviews with Lynn Minmay voice actress and singer Mari Iijima, acclaimed mechanical animation designer Ichirō Itano, Full Metal Panic! creator Shoji Gatoh, and Macross mechanical illustrator Hidetaka Tenjin.
The next volume of Macross Ace is scheduled to ship in the middle of November — the same month that the first movie version of Macross Frontier, Gekijō-ban Macross Frontier: Itsuwari no Utahime (Macross Frontier the Movie: The False Songstress), will open in Japanese theaters.
