The ICv2 retail news source reports that anime sales in the United States dropped only 2% in the first quarter of 2009 versus the first quarter of 2008. By comparison, anime sales dropped 11% in 2008 compared to 2007. ICv2 reported last year that North American anime DVD sales had already fallen more than 20% from 2006 (US$400 million) to 2007 (US$275-300 million). The distributor Funimation now has over 40% of the anime market share in the United States.
In addition to ICv2's analysis of the American anime market, issue #66 of the ICv2 Insider's Guide also includes the company's lists of the top 25 manga properties, top 10 shōjo properties, top 10 shonen properties, and top 10 anime properties for spring of 2009.
