posted on by Egan Loo
The Japanese television station NTV has announced on Tuesday that Naoki Serizawa's Saru Lock action comedy manga will get a television drama adaptation next month. Hayato Ichihara (Rookies, Onmyoji II, Wild Life) will play Yatarō "Saru" Sarumaru, an ordinary high school boy who daydreams about idols but otherwise has no luck with girls. However, this silver-haired son of a locksmith also happens to be a lockpicking genius, and there is no lock that "Saru" (literally, "monkey") cannot open. Rookies co-star Sōsuke Takaoka (Battle Royale, Crows Zero) will play Yamada, a police officer who was Saru's childhood friend.
The original manga has been running in Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine since 2004, and 20 compiled book volumes have been published. In addition the television drama, NTV is planning to turn the manga into a film for release next spring.
