Dragonball Evolution Opens at #8 with US$4.8 Million (Update 2)

Dragonball: Evolution, James Wong and 20th Century Fox's live-action film adaptation of Akira Toriyama's fighting manga, opened in the United States this weekend with an estimated US$4,650,000 on 2,181 screens. The April 10-12 box office estimate from the studio places Dragonball: Evolution at #8 below two other new films: #1's Hannah Montana The Movie with US$34,000,000 and #4's Observe and Report with US$11,140,000. As of this weekend, Dragonball: Evolution has earned an estimated US$25,315,346 worldwide after opening in eight Asian markets last month.
The Wachowski Brothers and Warner Brothers' live-action film remake of the Speed Racer car-racing anime opened last May at #3 with US$18,561,337.

Update: Box Office Mojo has updated its box office tallies with the actual results on Monday. Dragonball: Evolution earned US$4,756,488 — slightly higher than the preliminary estimates. Hannah Montana The Movie and Observe and Report earned less than what was previously estimated at $32,324,487 and $11,017,334, respectively.
