posted on by Egan Loo
Solanin, Inio Asano's acclaimed romance manga about a young couple who leave college for the turmoil of the real world together, is being adapted into a live-action film starring Aoi Miyazaki (live-action NANA film, Origin: Spirits of the Past, Someday's Dreamers, Tomie: Forbidden Fruit). Takahiro Miki (DNA Sights 999.9), the director best known for music videos for Orange Range and YUI, will oversee the project. Miyazaki will play the heroine Meiko, while Kengo Kōra will play her boyfriend Naruo. Other cast members will be announced in Shogakukan's Big Comic Spirits magazine on April 13. Filming will begin on April 25, and ASMIK Ace will release the movie in Japan next year.
Viz Media publishes the original manga in North America, and the English version has been nominated for an Eisner Award this year in the Best U.S. Edition of International Material—Japan category. The manga originally ran in Shogakukan's Weekly Young Sunday magazine from 2005 to 2006.
