Yamato Toymaker Reveals 1/2000 SDF-1 Macross Toy (Updated)
posted on by Egan Loo
Not-So-Daily Link of the Day: The Japanese toymaker Yamato revealed its prototype for the 60-cm (2-foot), 1/2000 SDF-1 Macross spaceship toy from Studio Nue's Macross anime franchise. (Photographs of the prototype were officially prohibited at the event.) The company previewed the prototype during the festival being held before the "Macross: The Super Dimension Space Launching Ceremony" on Sunday. Also on display was the prototype for Bandai's Macross Quarter spaceship toy, which is set for release this fall. Other items include Yamato's doll of the idol singer character Lynn Minmay, the bowl from the fictional Nyan Nyan Chinese restaurant, a list of the planned transformable variable fighters in Bandai's VF-100's toy line, and the official Macross bike.
The February event celebrates the precise month when the events of the very first episode of the first Macross science-fiction romance series supposedly takes place. Specifically, in February 2009 of the Macross timeline, mankind launches the alien spaceship that crashed on Earth ten years earlier — only to be attacked by another alien enemy on the same day.
Update: The displayed list for Bandai's VF-100's toy line is for a future survey of what customers may want for the line. All of the designs may not be made into toys.
Thank you to Adrian Lozano (Otaku2) for the photographs.
