Gainax Animates New Shuriken Girls Promo Video for CES (Updated)
posted on by Egan Loo
The Japanese studio Gainax (Honneamise, Evangelion, Gurren Lagann) produced a new animated Shuriken Girls (Shuriken Shōjo) promotional video for the Sharp manufacturer's booth at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this past week. Gainax animated the first 150-second Shuriken Girls video to promote Sharp and T-Mobile's Sidekick mobile phone at last year's CES. The Japanese AV Watch news site has images from this year's video and last year's video.
The Shuriken Girls title and the videos' spinning ninja weapons are intended to mirror the Sidekick's distinctive way of revealing its keyboard by spinning the screen 180 degrees. Last year's video introduced the three girls who transform into kunoichi (female ninja) with a soundtrack by the Japanese hard rock band Bomb Factory. This year's video adds a mysterious male student character named Tsukimiya-kun.
Update: The BB Watch website has posted the entire promotional video. Thank you to Erica Friedman of Yuricon for the news tip.
