Free Tekkonkinkreet Screening in New York City Tonight

New York University's Asian/Pacific/American Institute will be hosting a screening of Michael Arias and Studio 4°C's animated film adaptation of Taiyo Matsumoto's Tekkonkinkreet manga series this evening from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Cantor Film Center in New York City. The screening will include a panel of guest speakers consisting of Tekkonkinkreet screenwriter Anthony Weintraub, Professor David Grahame Shane of Columbia University and Cooper Union's Architectural Departments, and New York University Assistant English Professor Jini Kim Watson. The panel session will be moderated by Tim Looser, an associate professor of East Asian Studies at New York University.
Tekkonkinkreet earned Arias a Special Mention Award at Italy's Future Film Festival in January. The film also won the Grand Prix award at Belgium's Anima 2008 festival in February, as well as the 31st Japan Academy Prizes' Animaton of the Year award from the Nippon Academy-Sho Association. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment released the film in North America in April of last year.
