Yen Press & Little, Brown Books Interviewed on Haruhi
posted on by Egan Loo
The Publishers Weekly trade magazine has posted an article on Yen Press' targeting of anime fans for Gaku Tsugano's The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya manga — as contrasted with Little, Brown Books for Young Readers' plan to mainstream its release of Nagaru Tanigawa's original novels. Yen Press Publishing Director Kurt Hassler describes the manga's appeal to fans of Bandai Entertainment's anime release. Little, Brown Books Director of Paper Backs Joseph Monti says his company will promote the novels to pre-teen girls with online promotions and launch parties with free gifts on MySpace, Facebook, and other websites. Yen Press has initially printed 75,000 copies of the first manga volume, while Little, Brown Books is planning to print 10,000 hardcover copies and 50,000 paperback copies of the first novel in April.
