Kogyoaika Volleyboys Manga Gets Movie This Fall
posted on by Egan Loo
This year's combined 36/37th issue of Kodansha's Monthly Young Magazine has announced on Monday that a live-action movie version of Hiroyuki Murata's Kogyoaika Volleyboys high school comedy manga has been green-lit. The story follows the risque misadventures of three students named Akagi, Miyamoto, and Taniguchi — known by others as the Numa-Kō 3 Baka Trio ("The Asanuma Technical High School Idiot Trio"). The trio starts a second volleyball team at their school in a misguided attempt to be popular.
The manga ran for 17 years in Young Magazine and one million copies of the 50 compiled volumes have been published. A sequel called Kōshokuaika Moto Volleyboys has been running in the magazine since 2006. The manga has already been adapted into a 1997 anime video and a three-part 2006 live-action drama video series (pictured at right).
