Detroit Metal City to Get Plush Dolls, Figures, Single
posted on by Egan Loo
Not-So-Daily Link of the Day: Banpresto, Bandai Namco Group's maker and distributor of amusement game machines, will release a set of four plush dolls based on Kiminori Wakasugi's Detroit Metal City rock parody manga in Japan at the beginning of July. The manga follows a mild-mannered light pop singer who becomes the in-your-face lead singer of a glam rock band in the mold of KISS. The four figures — with Teutonic stage names like "Johannes Krauser II," "Alexander Jagi," "Dr. Camus," and the masochistic "Capitalist Pig" — flips over to reveal their real faces — Sōichi Negishi, Masayuki Wada, Terumichi Nishida, and Keisuke Nashimoto.
Kenichi Matsuyama (Death Note, NANA, Sexy Voice and Robo) stars as Sōichi in Toshio Li's live-action film adaptation that opens in Japan on August 23. Organic Hobby is distributing a separate line of action figures from Kaiyodo in North America in July. Matsuyama himself will be releasing an August 6 single with two songs — "Amai Koibito" (Sweet Lover) in his light-pop Sōichi persona, and "SATSUGAI" in his heavy-metal Krauser II alter-ego.
