Las Vegas Film Fest to Screen Murakami Anime on Monday
posted on by Egan Loo
The CineVegas film festival will screen an anime by contemporary artist Takashi Murakami on June 16 at Las Vegas, Nevada. The 10-minute "Planting the Seeds" short will be part of an art installation that will open to the public for that night only. This surreal adventure anime has already appeared in a larger @Murakami exhibition that has toured in Los Angeles and Brooklyn, New York. "Planting the Seeds" is the first episode in the planned series about the Kaikai and Kiki mascots of Murakami's Kaikai Kiki company. The Vogue Nippon fashion magazine included the same episode as a DVD extra last December.
Takashi Murakami, the major proponent of the "Superflat" aesthetic in modern art, has made cultural waves with the opening of the Los Angeles exhibit, his place in Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people, and a US$15.16 million auction of a controversial statue.
