Original manga serialized in
Shonen Jump magazine in Japan, U.S.

The IGN entertainment website has
posted the first episode of
Toei Animation's
Slam Dunk anime series with English subtitles. Like
Takehiko Inoue's original bestselling manga, the anime follows a hotheaded high school boy who joins the basketball team to impress the captain's sister, but ends up embracing the sport and his newfound teammates.
Toei released four DVD volumes of the anime in 2005 before
ceasing its direct distribution plans in North America.
Viz Media has been
serializing the original manga in
Shonen Jump magazine since February, and the first compiled English volume will
ship in September.
