U.S. Band Weezer Collaborates with Go-On! Manga's Akisige

Not-So-Daily Link of the Day: Music stores in Japan are promoting the latest album by the American rock band Weezer with a poster drawn by manga artist Manabu Akisige. The poster features the two main characters of Akisige's GO-ON! rock manga listening to The Red Album, which the Grammy-nominated band will release in the United States on June 3 and in Japan on June 4.
Shogakukan's Weekly Young Sunday magazine has been serializing the GO-ON! manga since the end of 2007. In the story, the main male character borrows Weezer's first album from a female classmate who happens to be his high school crush. As such, Weezer's albums play a pivotal role in their developing relationship.
Akisige said that even when he was an assistant manga artist, he would often listen to Weezer's music while drawing. He jumped at the chance to draw a manga that focuses on rock and incorporated his own favorite music. The Barks news source reports that Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo had already seen the manga before and had a very favorable impression of it. Not coincidentally, Cuomo married a Japanese native in 2006, and the two had a child in 2007.
