Grave of the Fireflies Remastered on Japanese DVD

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment will digitally remaster Studio Ghibli's Grave of the Fireflies film and ship the DVD with English subtitles in Japan on August 6. The film was the first that Isao Takahata (Only Yesterday, Pom Poko, My Neighbors the Yamadas) directed for the studio he co-founded with Hayao Miyazaki. Besides the digital remastering, the new DVD reissue will also boast at least 15 minutes of trailers and promotional videos, six interviews with the director and other staffers, photographs of locations that were scouted as inspirations for the film, and conceptual art. It will also use the DVD angle feature to allow viewers to toggle between the actual film and the storyboards for each scene. Warner Home Video released an earlier DVD in Japan, but it contained less extras than this year's release.
