Anime Planned for Amano's Mateki: The Magic Flute

Radical Publishing, the North American publisher of Yoshitaka Amano's Mateki: The Magic Flute book, posted a web page with the following note on the book: "Amano has committed to directing the anime version based upon this art book as well." Amano's coffee-table book adapts Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's opera about a prince who is sent to rescue a princess — only to discover the princess may not need rescuing.
Amano is best known for illustrating the Vampire Hunter D novels and designing several anime projects and Final Fantasy game installments, but he also created and directed last year's Tori no Uta video. Earlier in his career, he served as the animation director on the Kashi no Ki Mokku and Ai no Kiseki - Doctor Norman Monogatari television projects. He then co-created the story and supervised the art on Angel's Egg, the 1985 experimental film that Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, Patlabor, Avalon) scripted and directed.
