Japan's NHK to Air Kids' Special with Ghibli Music
posted on by Egan Loo
On Children's Day this Monday, the Japanese broadcaster NHK will air Hirake! Mahō no Tobira ~Isshoni Utaou Yume no Uta~ (Open the Magic Door! The Songs of Dreams to Sing Along), a special of Disney and Studio Ghibli music as performed by composer Joe Hisaishi, child singer Nozomi Ōhashi, and others. Ohashi, Takaaki Fujioka, and Naoya Fujimaki recorded the main theme for Studio Ghibli's upcoming Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea film, and they will reprise this song during the special. Second-generation pop singer Sayaka Kanda (Dragon Head) will sing the opening theme song for Panda Kopanda, one of the earliest works of Ghibli founders Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki. Hisaishi will then lead renditions of "Nausicaä's Requiem" (from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind) and "Kaze no Toori Michi" (from My Neighbor Totoro). Singer Becky (Pokémon) will end the Ghibli selection with My Neighbor Totoro's "Sanpo" and main theme. There will also be 10 songs from Disney works.
