Scott Pilgrim's Canadian Artist Draws Shojo Beat Cover
posted on by Mikhail Koulikov
Bryan Lee O'Malley, the creator of the Harvey Award-winning, manga-influenced Scott Pilgrim comic, has contributed an original cover illustration to the March issue of Viz's Shojo Beat magazine, which is due out on February 21. The issue will also include an interview with O'Malley, an art tutorial, and a short four-panel comic by him.
Scott Pilgrim is the story of a 20-something Toronto resident's adventures in getting and keeping jobs, avoiding being kicked out of his apartment, and surviving encounters with the seven evil ex-boyfriends of the new girl in town that he has a crush on. Entertainment Weekly magazine named it as the best independent comic of 2006. Oni Press has published four volumes so far, and Universal Pictures has optioned the story for potential development into a live-action film.
