Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi's Iron Linebarrels (Kurogane no Linebarrels) "real battle action robot" manga will be animated in Japan in 2008. The animation project was revealed in the Animate retail chain's preview information for the February issue (on sale January 10) of Animage magazine. The manga runs in Akita Shoten's Champion RED magazine. According to blurbs on the promotional cover wrappers of Iron Linebarrel's eight compiled volumes, Yoshikazu Yasuhiko (Gundam character designer) and Mamoru Nagano (Five Star Stories) both read and recommend the work.
The story centers on a middle school boy named Kōichi Hayase who was seriously injured by an apparent accident: the fall of an artificial satellite in 2013. Hayase wakes up half a year later with strange powers. Then, in 2016, a mysterious 21-meter-tall robot named Linebarrel appears before him. Hayase joins Linebarrel's other pilot, Emi Kizaki, in fighting for Juda, the world's largest medical equipment maker which happens to secretly own seven Machina robots like Linebarrel.
