Online, video-on-demand releases in the works

The American premium channel IFC is announcing that it licensed the Witchblade, Speed Grapher and Hell Girl anime series from their distributor Funimation. Thre three works will begin airing in staggered premieres next year. In addition to showing these three series on its regular cable channel, IFC is working to release them on online and on video-on-demand next year. The channel had previously licensed Samurai 7, Basilisk and Gunslinger Girl from Funimation.

Witchblade is Gonzo studio's anime spinoff (pictured at right) from a Top Cow comic series that also inspired a live-action television series. It revolves around a mystical weapon that empowers the women who wield it. Speed Grapher, another Gonzo television series, centers around a former war photographer who discovers both a secret cabal in Tokyo and a secret power within himself. Studio DEEN and Aniplex created Hell Girl, in which the title girl dispatches unfortunate victims to the underworld after their names are written on a certain website.
