Bookstore Moves Manga Section after Parent's Complaint

The CBS television affiliate WLTX reported last week that the Books-A-Million store in Lexington, South Carolina is relocating its manga section after a parent complained about finding an explicit manga volume in the store's children's section nearby. The parent, Sandra McWaters, said she brought her son to the "Kids-A-Million" section and found "a picture of a naked boy in Japanese animation," a reference to a volume of Yuu Watase's Absolute Boyfriend shōjo manga.
When notified by McWaters, the store manager said that the store would relocate the book. Book-a-Million Vice President of Marketing Jeff Skipper added later that the store would relocate its manga department away from the kids' department. Nevertheless, McWaters said she will no longer bring her son to this particular store.
The Comics Reporter website noted that the Books-A-Million retail chain has been helping to expand the reach of manga in the United States. In recent years, it has been raising its orders from manga publishers and opening new locations in towns that once had no bookstores.
