Akihabara Manga Festival Schedule Announced
posted on by Evan Miller
The schedule of events for the "Manga Festival" taking place during the final four days of the Akihabara Enta Festival (October 25 through October 28) has been released. The three symposiums at the business-oriented event will focus on the international market, digital manga, and copyright issues respectively. Fittingly, the Manga Festival begins the day after the conclusion of Tiffcom, a similar event with a focus on anime, films, television and other visual media.
For the international market symposium, Tokyopop CEO Stuart Levy is scheduled to lead a seminar on the manga market in the United States, while members from the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) will present on other foreign markets.
Seminars on digital manga and digital distribution will be facilitated by staff from some of Japan's largest online book rental cites, cell phone giant NTT Docomo, and manga publishing houses Kadokawa and Kodansha.
The copyright issues symposium will feature both staff from manga publishing companies and journalists familiar with copyright issues, the question of parodies and the rules that govern them, and other topics. The final presentation, which covers methods and topics involved in selling manga overseas, will be led by Viz Media Executive Vice President Hyoe Narita.
