Japan's Cultural Affairs Agency Ranks Top Anime, Manga
posted on by Mikhail Koulikov
The Agency for Cultural Affairs, a division of Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, has released the results of two polls that asked voters to choose the top 50 anime and manga of all time from longer pre-selected lists. Neon Genesis Evangelion takes the top spot in the anime category, followed by Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Laputa: Castle in the Sky, Mobile Suit Gundam and Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro. Slam Dunk was the number one manga. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Dragon Ball, Fullmetal Alchemist and Doraemon ranked two through five.
Both lists also offered voters an option to write in up to ten titles that were not included in ACA's lists. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya was the top write-in anime, while Honey and Clover was the number one write-in manga. JapanProbe has translated both lists and posted them at Top 50 anime and Top 50 manga. The original lists in Japanese can be accessed at the Japan Media Arts Festival website.
