Viz Goes Beyond Manga with Fiction, Non-Fiction Books
posted on by Egan Loo
ICv2 reports on Viz Media's non-manga offerings for the rest of year as the publisher expands further into fields with tie-ins to manga, anime, and live-action films. Tadamichi Kuribayashi's Picture Letters From the Commander-in-Chief, the real-life inspiration for Clint Eastwood's Letters From Iwo Jima, will ship in June. Miyuki Miyabe's Brave Story novel also inspired a movie (from GONZO) as well as a manga series before its July release in North America. July's Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence is the reverse, being Masaki Yamada's novelization based on Mamoru Oshii's movie sequel.
As previously announced, one novel, one Anime Profiles book, one color Movie Ani-Manga, and twelve manga volumes for Naruto will flood stores by year's end. The first of 16 Shana of the Blazing Eyes light novels that inspired the anime and manga series will publish in October. Viz is then selling US$9.99 reissues of Be With You, Kamikaze Girls, and Socrates in Love in November.
