Media Blasters pulls out of Seinen / Older Shounen Market
posted on by Mikhail Koulikov
A Publishers Weekly Comics Week report following up on several threads in the AnimeOnDVD discussion forums has confirmed that Media Blasters will cease publication of most of its current non-yaoi manga, including Pilgrim Jäger, Apocalypse Zero, Baron Gong Battle, Kamunagara: Rebirth of the Demonslayer, and Flesh for the Beast. According to Media Blasters managing editor Frank Pannone, licensing these titles, which are aimed at an older audience while most manga published in the US is directed towards readers of all ages, was a chance that "did not pay off."
At the same time, MB will continue to publish yaoi titles, at a rate of at least one or two per month. The company plans to return to the non-yaoi market sometime in the future. Says Pannone: "We're still experimenting. We're always going for styles that no one else in the industry is doing."
