Mexican Commercial (Blurb) Directors to Direct Live-Action Adaptation
Variety reports that Jorge and Javier Aguilera have been selected as the directors for the live-action adaptation of Kite.
Rob Cohen and Anant Singh will produce the feature, which will have a screenplay by Joshua Rubin.
The original anime is about a young girl who is taken in and trained as an assassin by a corrupt police officer. The original, uncut version. features several pornographic scenes including the rape of the underage girl. Cohen has stated that this version will not include "graphic adult situations", particularly the rape found in the anime.
According to Variety, "New version will take place in the not-too-distant future when a police state has arisen in response to perceived threats of terrorism. ... [A] a young woman whose parents have been murdered is taken in by a corrupt detective who uses homeless kids to do his dirty work."
