Series Based on Yukari Ichijo Manga Dominate Afternoon TV
posted on by Christopher Macdonald
Two manga by Yukari Ichijō, Designer and Tadashii Ren'ai no Susume (Advice for Sane Romance) currently have live-action adaptations airing on Japan's TBS network.
The two series come from very different periods of her career and were created for the same audience, but for very different perdiods in that audience's life. In 1974 Designer was serialised in Ribbon Magazine, a shoujo magazine geared towards elementary school girls.
Tadashii Ren'ai no Susume was released some twenty years later and was serialised in Young You, a magazine for adult women.
Today Ichijo's manga are particularly popular with women in their 30s and 40s who have been following her career since they were children and the two TV series are succeding in the afternoon soap-opera slot.
