New sequel for foreign markets
Hollywood reporter is reporting that Toei Animation is producing a sequel to Kinnikuman, or Ultimate Muscle, primarilly for foreign, non Japanese audiences.
In fact the reports states that, following the recent conclusion of the second Kinnikuman series, "Kinnikuman Nisei," Japanese viewers will not see another Kinnikuman sequel in Japan. As it is being produced for an American audience, the new Kinnikuman series will see it's level of violence toned down to meet American standards.
Toei Animation is following a recent trend where the foreign market is seen as being a vital and strategic market for Japanese Animation. Already several North American studios are funding, in part or entirely, the Japanese production of new series, particularly spin-offs and sequels to series that were popular in North America.
Toei's move is notable when compared to those that preceded it in that the new sequel is not meant for air in Japan at all.
