The Daily Yomiuri reported last week the arrest of former movie producer Yoshinori Nishizaki, 64, over drug and weapon charges. Nishizaki was producer for Space Battleship Yamoto series in 1977. (His production company was declared bankrupt in September of 1997, and Nishizaki was arrested for drug posession three months later that year.)
Nishizaki (whose real first name is Hirofumi) voluntarily submitted two automatic rifles, 1,800 bullets, and 30 Howitzer shells kept in a station wagon in his garage, according to police, after a handgun, 131 bullets, and 20 grams of an unnamed stimulant drug were seized from his house in Setagaya Ward, Tokyo.
Police sources said that Nishizaki also had an Austrian handgun (with three bullets loaded) stashed under a chair in his study. Nishizaki told police that he purchased the gun in Hong Kong ten years ago.
