UserLocal Data Ranking: There Are Now Over 16,000 Virtual YouTubers

Data analysis firm UserLocal revealed on Tuesday that there are now over 16,000 Virtual YouTubers being tracked by the service. The service outlines the number of VTubers over time as follows:
- March 19, 2018: 1,000
- April 27, 2018: 2,000
- May 28, 2018: 3,000
- July 10, 2018: 4,000
- September 12, 2018: 5,000
- December 19, 2018: 6,000
- February 21, 2019: 7,000
- May 6, 2019: 8,000
- September 5, 2019: 9,000
- January 15, 2020: 10,000
- May 24, 2020: 11,000
- August 17, 2020: 12,000
- November 10, 2020: 13,000
- October 19, 2021: 16,000
UserLocal defines a VTuber as users that "release videos on YouTube using a CG character." The service counts channels that have applied to be represented on the Virtual YouTuber ranking, as well as channels that principally make use of Virtual YouTuber avatars.
According to UserLocal, hololive English's Gawr Gura is the most popular VTuber, with 3.49 million subscribers as of Tuesday. She is followed by Kizuna Ai (2.98 million subscribers on main, 1.53 million subscribers on the gaming channel), Usada Pekora (1.74 million), Mori Calliope (1.74 million), Inugami Korone (1.7 million), Houshou Marine (1.66 million), Shirakami Fubuki (1.64 million), Watson Amelia (1.48 million), Uruha Rushia (1.44 million), and Minato Aqua (1.41 million).
