Silver Kamuy Returns For New Year Manga Chapters

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Earlier this year, Satoru Noda's Golden Kamuy manga had a little fun for Respect for the Aged Day, a Japanese holiday that honors senior citizens. The manga's official website revealed a special "Silver Kamuy" manga that reworked seven chapters with all of the characters, animals included, turned into elderly versions of themselves.

The geriatric comedy manga will return, this time in Weekly Young Jump's combined fourth and fifth issue on December 27. The manga magazine will include a booklet with three chapters centering on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Key artwork for the chapters shows the cast with a boar, the Chinese zodiac animal that represents the year 2019.

Noda launched the ongoing Golden Kamuy manga in Shueisha's Young Jump magazine in 2014. The manga's 15th volume bundled an anime DVD focusing on the manga's Barato arc. The second season of the manga's television anime premiered on October 8. Crunchyroll streams the series as it airs, and Funimation streams an English dub.

Viz Media is releasing the manga in English, and it describes the first volume:

In the early twentieth century, Russo-Japanese War veteran Saichi “Immortal” Sugimoto scratches out a meager existence during the postwar gold rush in the wilderness of Hokkaido. When he stumbles across a map to a fortune in hidden Ainu gold, he sets off on a treacherous quest to find it. But Sugimoto is not the only interested party, and everyone who knows about the gold will kill to possess it! Faced with the harsh conditions of the northern wilderness, ruthless criminals and rogue Japanese soldiers, Sugimoto will need all his skills and luck—and the help of an Ainu girl named Asirpa—to survive.
