Aggressive Retsuko Tries Charcoal Supplements to Alleviate Work Stress
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
At first glance, 25-year old Retsuko looks like your average Sanrio mascot character. She's both a cute and fluffy animal (in this case, a red panda) with a simple yet charming design. Behind her adorable veneer is an overworked office lady brimming with rage just waiting to escape. Her working life is inspiring to plenty of post-college grads grinding away to make ends meet.
It looks like Japanese beauty company DHC is hoping to tap into the Aggrestuko demographic by hiring the character to appear in a commercial for its new dietary supplement, "Detocleanse." Detocleanse is building off the recent charcoal fad. If you browse beauty blogs or have waltzed around the make-up aisle in your local pharmacy, if you've probably seen something containing activated charcoal whether its to clean your pores, whiten your teeth, or flush out your digestive system.
Please note that neither myself nor Anime News Network are substantiating any of the claims made about charcoal products.
DHC's Detocleanse is meant for consumption and DHC is promoting it as a cleansing product. In the commercial, comedian Shingo Fujimori begins working in the same office as Retsuko. He recommends Detocleanse to her to help alleviate her accumulating stress from work life.
The first Netflix season of Aggretsuko premiered worldwide on April 20. The series has 10 15-minute episodes. Rarecho, the director of the previous Agressive Retsuko anime (which predated the Netflix anime) and Yawaraka Sensha, again directed the first Netflix season at Fanworks, and also penned the scripts.
Aggressive Retsuko anime will get a second season that will debut on Netflix in 2019.
