Holmes of Kyoto Collaboration Tour is Wrapped in Mystery

posted on by Karen Ressler

JR Tōkai Tours is offering Holmes of Kyoto fans a chance to take a bullet train to Kyoto as part of a collaboration with the anime. Apparently the tour will have a mystery solving-theme, because it is titled "Koto o Meguru Nazotoki Tour: Kyoto Holmes no Sekai" (Puzzle Solving Tour of the Old Capital: The World of Kyoto Holmes).

Round trips set off from Tokyo, Shizuoka, and Chubu. On arrival, guests will be treated to a walking tour, presumably to see sights they would recognize from the anime or novels. A one- or two-night stay in a hotel is included.

Participants will also receive two souvenirs: a notebook explaining the mysteries surrounding the settings of Holmes of Kyoto and a special Holmes of Kyoto story written by Mai Mochizuki. The story (cover pictured right) is titled "Kyōto Teramachi Sanjō no Holmes Tokubetsu-hen ~Jinsei no Kiro to Aomomiji~" (Holmes of Kyoto Special Edition ~Crossroads of Life and Autumn Leaves~). Kyoto's fall foliage is a popular attraction.

Tours will be available from July 21 to September 30.

The "light, antique mystery" anime based on Mochizuki's novel series revolves around a "spiteful," handsome Kyoto boy and a high school girl. The story is set at an antique shop in Kyoto's Teramachi Sanjō shopping district. High school girl Aoi Mashiro unexpectedly runs into Kiyotaka Yagashira, the son of the shop's owner, and ends up working part-time at the shop. Kiyotaka is called the "Holmes at Teramachi Sanjō," and he and Aoi solve odd cases brought to them by various clients.

The anime premiered on July 9 and is streaming on Crunchyroll.
