Assassination Classroom's Yusei Matsui Judges Contest for Manga Beginners

The editorial department of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine revealed the Jump Start Dash Manga Shō contest on Monday. Assassination Classroom manga creator Yūsei Matsui will serve as judge.

The awards will collect submissions of only the first three to seven pages of a manga. Submissions in pencil are acceptable. Participants can submit their works in physical or digital formats, as well as via Twitter.

Excellent works will receive personal advice from Matsui about the direction the story could take after the beginning. The winning works and runners-up will be published in the main Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, while honorable mentions will be published in a special edition. The top prize winners will receive 300,000 yen (about US$2,700), and the runners-up will receive 150,000 yen (about US$1,400). Honorable mentions will receive 50,000 yen (about US$450), while finalists will receive 10,000 yen (about US$90). Participants under 18 years of age will be eligible to win the a special 5,000-yen (about US$45) award.

The deadline to send in submissions in August 31. Results are slated to be announced in Weekly Shonen Jump in late October.
