Improvised Ghibli in London

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Castles in the Air improv stage performance near Liverpool Street this Friday and on April 21

The Nursery Theatre, an improv theatre close to Liverpool Street and Moorgate Underground stations (directions), will run a Ghibli-inspired production called Castles in the Air, on Friday March 30 (booking) and again on Saturday April 21 (booking).

On both days, the events start at 8 p.m. and the Castles in the Air section will be accompanied by a different piece of improvised theatre - see links for details. Tickets start at £5. Castles in the Air is described as follows:

Set out on a voyage of discovery inspired by Japanese anime and the films of Studio Ghibli. Castles in the Air explores improvised tales of friendship and transformation, in worlds limited only by our imaginations. Take a break from life's practicalities and be gently swept along with our lovable characters, where a happy ending is (almost) always guaranteed.

How will the cast, a musician and lighting tech be inspired by Japanese animated feature films, such as Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle and Ponyo, to create a whole new story completely made up on the spot? Come along to find out!

Castles In The Air is a Nursery Original production directed by Jacqueline Black and starring Fred Deakin, Juwel Haque, Harry Turnbull, Ellie Griffiths, Abigail Halley, Stephen Davidson, Erick Castellan, with music from Will Dixon and Yshani Perinpanayagam.
