Anime News Network's merchandise coverage sponsored by Tokyo Otaku Mode.

SuperGroupies unveiled a new line of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann clothes and accessories on Thursday. Models transformed into Kamina and Yoko for the campaign to show off outfits inspired by the characters.

SuperGroupies also began streaming a behind-the-scenes video from the photo shoot that created detailed real-world versions of Kamina and Yoko. Hair and makeup artist Tadashi Harada and stylist Tsuyoshi Takahashi helmed the project. The models show the characters both in their trademark anime outfits and in the collaboration's original looks.

Each character-inspired set of merchandise includes five items. Kamina's set includes a coat, shirt, sneakers, glasses, and watch. Yoko's set includes a jacket, shirt, hat, necklace, and bracelet. The items range in price from 4,800 yen (about US$43) for the bracelet to 32,000 yen (US$288) for the coat.

The online shop will begin accepting orders on January 25. People who order at least one item from the line will receive a set of two bromides of Gurren Lagann key animator Hirokazu Kojima's special illustrations and the real-life Kamina and Yoko in their anime outfits.

SuperGroupies will also run a limited physical shop at the Seibu department store in Ikebukuro, Tokyo from January 17-23. People who purchase at least one item at the shop will receive a set of three bromides. The bromides will be the same as those available with online purchases, plus two bromides with the models wearing the new merchandise.

The 27-episode Gurren Lagann television anime series premiered in April 2007. The Gurren Lagann the Movie –Childhood's End- film opened in September 2008, and Gurren Lagann the Movie – The Lights in the Sky Are Stars opened in April 2009. The anime received special Bly-ray Disc box sets in both Japan and North America last year.
