IDOLiSH7 Stars Make Canine Debut in 'IDOGLiSH7' Videos

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

The IDOLiSH7 franchise celebrated the Year of the Dog with "Ainuish7" (IDOGLiSH7) videos on Monday. The first video debuted on Twitter, but the franchise's official YouTube channel posted all three videos.

In the videos, the franchise's male idols appear as various breeds of dogs with traditional Japanese New Year decorations. In the first video, Riku as a Papillon says, "Our aim it to be the number one idols—," and Iori as a Pomeranian cuts him off. Iori says, "Is this a bad pun?" He may be referring both to the title of the promotional videos and Riku barking "one." The English word for "one" sounds similar to the onomatopoeia for a dog barking in Japanese. Riku then admits it is a bad pun.

In the second video, Sōgo as a Wire Fox Terrier reuses the "bad pun" and reminds viewers that the show's stars are aiming to become top idols. He stops short because Tamaki as an Old English Sheepdog is licking the King's Pudding-shaped kagami mochi ("mirror rice cake"), which is a traditional Japanese New Year decoration. In the third video, Nagi as a Borzoi says, "I'm beautiful even when I become a dog—," and Yamato as a Doberman Pinscher separately tells Mitsuki as a Pomeranian that he is cute as a dog. Irritated, Mitsuki tells Yamato not to call him cute.

The videos celebrate the premiere of the franchise's anime. The main IDOLiSH7 television anime will premiere in Japan on January 7, and the broadcast will begin with episode 3. The anime's first two episodes aired together as a special that premiered on Tokyo MX on January 1 at 8:00 p.m.
