Misia Tries Transmutation in Live-Action Fullmetal Alchemist Film's Music Video

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Director Fumihiko Sori attended as Anime NYC screened the live-action Fullmetal Alchemist film's United States premiere on November 19. Another work that Sori directed in relation to the film debuted on Friday. The official YouTube channel of Fullmetal Alchemist fan and singer-songwriter Misia began streaming a music video for her "Kimi no Soba ni Iru yo" (I'm By Your Side) theme song for the film.

In the video, Misia stands in for Ed and wears an outfit apparently inspired by his characteristic ensemble in the manga and anime. A column of Transmutation Circles flow down around her. She then helps Al literally put himself back together. Al faces off against transmuted monsters from the film, and the Gate of Alchemy also appears. Misia tries her hand at Ed's circle-less style of transmutation. She ends the video by disappearing through the Gate, presumably to join Truth.

Misia also posed for collaboration images for the song.

Sori said of the video, "We made this video clip with the concept of Misia appearing in the world of the Fullmetal Alchemist film as a new character." The single CD for "Kimi no Soba ni Iru yo" will ship on Wednesday.

The live-action film opened the Tokyo International Film Festival on October 25 for its world premiere. The film will have IMAX and 4DX screenings when it opens on about 400 screens in Japan on December 1.

The film will also open in over 190 countries around the world, including in the United States and Europe. According to the website, it will be the widest international opening for any Japanese film — live-action or animated. (The Japanese film industry often lists territories among "countries"; for example, Hong Kong is often listed separately from mainland China.)
