King's Game Card Game Challenges You To Be the Last One Standing

Anime News Network's merchandise coverage sponsored by Tokyo Otaku Mode.

The characters from King's Game: The Animation are ready to die again, but this time the King is you. King's Game The Animation -Death Card Game Edition- recreates the survival horror anime but this time the players must perform the commands or else drop out of the running to win.

The game is made up of 48 number cards, 48 character cards representing the two classes in the anime series, and 12 command cards imitating the texts that appear on the characters' cell phone screens. Number cards are used to satisfy the King's commands and the player that survives all the commands after all the players' hands are used up wins.

Command examples include "The player with the largest number must drop out," so it's possible to lose immediately. The game is supposed to create a similar tension as the anime series, although no one will actually die and the King's command are far more G-rated.

The card game set retails for 2,160 yen (US$19) and will go on sale on November 29. It will also be available at this year's Game Market 2017 Fall event at Tokyo Big Sight on December 2 and 3.

Crunchyroll is streaming King's Game: The Animation and Funimation is dubbing the anime as it airs in Japan. The anime is an adaptation of Nobuaki Kanazawa's King's Game (Ōsama Game) cellphone novel and is expected to run for 12 episodes.
