13-Year-Old Makes Manga Debut in Saucy Cheese! Magazine

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

A middle school kid made their manga debut in Cheese! magazine's November issue released on Friday. The shōjo mag is known for publishing works focusing on more "mature" relationships than its peers. If the title image is any indicator, 13-year-old Shion Sakamaki's debut work Amaku Nigaku Mitashite (Fulfill Me Sweetly & Bitterly) will fit right in.

The story centers on 17-year-old high school student Shiori. She wants to end her feelings for her first love, so she decides to lay her body against a guy's just once. However, his heat and breath captivate her, and she can't seem to separate herself from him. They might become friends with benefits....

The November issue of Cheese! includes an interview with manga creator Kotomi Aoki, who also debuted as a teenager with 99 no Namida. Sakamaki is a big fan of Aoki's work.

Sakamaki is the youngest manga artist to ever debut in Cheese! She joins the ranks of other young manga upstarts like Ran Tokiwa, who won Shogakukan Newcomer Comic Grand Prize at 14-years-old in 2015.
