Hatsune Miku Enters the World of Osamu Tezuka for New Exhibition
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Hatsune Miku has traveled beyond her electronic musical roots to be a virtual girlfriend, a racing queen, and the mascot of Hokkaido's snowy winters.
Manga god Osamu Tezuka has left his own indelible mark. On what would have been his 90th birthday his works like Astro Boy continue to inspire new takes from this season's Atom The Beginning and the fresh Pluto anime announcement.
Starting on July 1, the world's most famous Vocaloid will step into the fantastic worlds of Osamu Tezuka and his namesake museum in Takarazuka, Hyogo. The exhibition focuses on the connection between the two characters thanks in part to long-time Tezuka collaborator and composer Isao Tomita. Tomita composed "Symphony Ihatov," a performance featuring the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, a choir of chamber singers, and Hatsune Miku in 2012 and it went on for an encore performance in China at the request of the country's government in 2015. Tomita passed last year and Hatsune Miku performed as a ballerina at a memorial concert in his honor.
This new exhibition will blend Tezuka's works and Miku again, with the virtual idol appearing in artwork featuring Black Jack, Unico, Astro Boy, Phoenix, Princess Knight, and more. A themed food menu and art prints will be available for purchase. A new 3DCG Hatsune Miku will sing the Princess Knight theme song at the event.
