Camouflage Gundam Blends Into Its Gunpla Box Surroundings

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Gundam plastic model (Gunpla) builders often go to great lengths to create unique works of art from kits. However, Twitter user Otoyan posted pictures of what may be a first in the world of Gunpla.

The Gunpla was painted to blend into a backdrop of Gunpla boxes almost perfectly. The model is made from a so-called "old kit" 1/144-scale Gundam model kit with parts divided by color.

Some net commenters have compared the camouflage Gundam to Ghost in the Shell's optical camouflage technology. People have been extensively retweeting images of the creation to share their amazement.

Gunpla builder Kyo recently used advanced painting techniques to achieve a 2D appearance on a 1/100-scale Barbatos Gundam from Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans. World-class Gunpla builders are honored every year at the GunPla Builders World Cup.
