Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale's AR Yuna, LiSA Perform at Film Event

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

A promotional event for the Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale anime film featured an augmented reality (AR) performance by the character Yuna on Wednesday. After the talk portion of the event, Yuna appeared via AR technology to perform a medley of three songs from the film: "Ubiquitous dB," "longing," "Break Beat Bark!"

Yuna introduced LiSA as a secret guest after finishing her own performance. Yuna gave LiSA a high five as she walked off stage.

LiSA then performed her ending theme song for the film, "Catch the Moment." The human singer's performance also utilized AR technology to display lyrics and art. As soon as she finished her performance, LiSA said "I'm the real thing!"

The event opened with a digest video of Sword Art Online television anime and a video of the first part of the new film. Director Tomohiko Ito appeared with Ayaka Ikezawa and Yōichi Ochiai for the talk portion of the event. Ikezawa is known as a "geek actress" who graduated from Keio University's Environment and Information Studies department. Ochiai is a media artist and researcher who collaborated on the AR project for the event. He is known for visual and tactile works that combine computer and analog technology.

The film is opening in Japan on Saturday. In addition to starring in the anime film, Yuna will appear in Bandai Namco Entertainment's Accel World VS Sword Art Online: Millennium Twilight PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita game, which will ship on March 16.

AR idol group AR performers held their first major live performances at Tokyo's Differ Ariake arena on Tuesday and Wednesday.
