Samara Spooks Shoppers in Rings Promo Prank

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The star of Paramount Pictures' Rings live-action horror film terrified unsuspecting television shoppers in an official stunt to promote the movie. In the clip, a electronic store facade was set-up to lure in customers with the chance to win a free TV by taking a survey. Store associate "Andy" asks potential buyers questions about the television display to distract them while Samara crawls out.

Understandably, many of the unwitting participants were frightened enough to run out of the store.

Rings is slated to open on February 3 after several delays.

Paramount Pictures describes the story:

A young woman becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it. She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before…

Rings is a sequel to The Ring and will take place 13 years later. F. Javier Gutiérrez is directing the film, and Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald (The Ring, The Ring Two) are producing. David Loucka, Jacob Aaron Estes, and Akiva Goldsman wrote the script. Alex Roe, Matilda Lutz, Aimeé Teegarden, Johnny Galecki, Bonnie Morgan and Vincent D'Onofrio are starring in the film.
