Ghost in the Shell Hollywood Film Gets Exclusive Tokyo Event in November
posted on by Amanda Ellard
In light of the Hollywood Ghost in the Shell film starring Scarlett Johansson and directed by Rupert Sanders, a special "Ghost in the Shell Exclusive Event" will take place in Tokyo on November 13.
For public relations, Johansson will be visiting Japan, too, which is the first time since the film Lost in Translation 14 years ago. Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks Pictures' live-action Ghost in the Shell film is slated for release on March 31, 2017. Other cast members include Pilou Asbæk as Batou, Michael Pitt as Laughing Man, Beat Takeshi (also known as Takeshi Kitano) as Daisuke Aramaki, Juliette Binoche as Dr. Ouelet, and Kaori Momoi as the mother of Johansson's character.
Masamune Shirow's original manga began serialization in 1989 and was later published in collected volumes by Kodansha. The American arm of Kodansha began reprinting the manga in 2009, after Dark Horse Comics had the license. Kodansha also launched two new manga series based on director Kenji Kamiyama's Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex television anime series that year. In addition to Mamoru Oshii's two anime films and Kamiyama's two Stand Alone Complex television series and spinoff feature, Shirow's manga also inspired the recent Ghost in the Shell Arise prequel anime with its own tie-in feature film release and television broadcast.
